Basic Use of Express Scribe

Basic Use of Express Scribe

I use Express Scribe when I need to transcribe dictation files for Scribie. With this software, I can play back an audio at any time stamp and at any speed rate so it helps me get the work done but anyone can use any transcription tool that they have.

Here's how I use Express Scribe:

1.) Launch Express Scribe.

2.) These are the basic buttons that I use in the software.

1 Load Button - to load dictation files into the software
2 Playback position - to playback any part of the dictation
3 Playback Volume - to adjust the desired volume
4 Playback Speed - to adjust the desired playback speed

I don't use the play, stop, rewind, fast forward buttons that much in this software. I have my own shortcut keys assigned to them so I can go on with work a little faster.

Here's how to  assign shortcut keys:

Click the Option menu

Click on Systems Wide Hot keys

Click on any command you want to assign a new shortcut key. Then click change.
(In the example below, I want to assign a new shortcut key to PLAY command .)

Click Change.

Press a key (this will be your shortcut key for the command)

Click Ok

Click Ok to apply changes.

And that's it for assigning shortcut keys to commands.

These are only the commands that I assigned shortcut keys with. It's easier for me to playback dictations with these keys.

PLAY- arrow down
REWIND - arrow left
FAST FORWARD - arrow right
STOP - arrow up

3.) You can then load Microsoft Word where you can transcribe the dictation.

4.) You can minimize Express Scribe to any size you desire or click Scribe mini to resize it at its minimum size and use only the basic functions of the software.

Scribe Mini Buttons (shorcut keys assigned still apply)

Scribie Balance Withdrawal

Freelance Audio Transcription

Scribie an audio transcription outsource uses only paypal as their payment method. As a transcriber they allow you to withdraw anytime from your account's balance. They have a withdrawal fee of 0.02 cents for every $1 audio file transcribed. This apply if you withdraw an amount less $30 but its free if you withdraw at $30 and above. When I earned $2 in Scribie, I withdraw it right away to test if the company does pay. After 24 hours I was notified by e-mail that Scribie sent me payment. This was my first payment from Scribie. =P

How to Apply As Transcriber in Scribie

Freelance Audio Transcription

Applying as a transcriber in Scribie  is an easy step. Here's how:

1.) Go to the site. Click SCRIBIE

SCRIBIE FREELANCE AUDIO TRANSCRIPTION
2.) If you want to go directly to the application form, under Introduction click APPLY NOW but I suggest that before you proceed, read  the INTRODUCTION first to know more about being a transcriber in Scribie, the requirements, the transcription process and the payment process.

3.)After you've understood the introduction, download ExpressScribe under TOOLS. This software is necessary for you to transcribe audio files. With this tool you can play, rewind, forward or slow down the audio file so you can easily transcribe audio files into text at your convenience.

Or you can download it here: http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/

If it doesn't work for you, scroll down to the bottom of the same page and download from the alternatives.

4.) Don't forget to read their TERMS and if you have more queries make sure to read their FAQ page.

5.) Finally go to APPLY and fill out the necessary information on the application form. You should have a VERIFIED Paypal account. Most application forms with un-verified paypal account are rejected since this is the only payment method that Scribie currently accepts.

If you receive an email that your application is rejected, just visit the link "Request for application deletion," found in the same email or check your application status and click "Request Delete" Button. Verify your paypal (if this is the cause of rejection) and re-apply again.

6.) After submitting your application form online. Scribie will send you an email that will confirm your application was accepted. You will then be added to their waiting list for test invite.

To check your APPLICATION STATUS for test invite, go to APPLY and Enter your Application Number in the textbox provided on the page.

7.)Once your invited, it will show in your application status and you will receive an e-mail for a test invite.

You can then create your account in Scribie. Login and choose an audio file from the list of files. If you find it impossible to comprehend the rest of the audio, in the middle of transcribing, you can cancel the assignment and choose another file. Only the selected, transcribed and submitted file will be considered your test file.

If your first submission was rejected, don't worry and consider it a practice! You don't have to delete your account this time. Since your application had been accepted and you have been invited for a test,  you can re-take the test again or defer it and take it at a later time. Your test invite will never expire. You have the chance to re-take the test for at least 10 times.

Refer to their GUIDELINES and SAMPLE page for reference on how to transcribe an audio file.

Good Luck!

Homebased Freelance Transcription Job

Freelance Audio Transcription

I was browsing through the internet searching for a job I could do online when I came across Scribie. I found out that Scribie  is an audio  transcription outsource. The company provides service to convert audio files into text and they are hiring home-based freelance general transcribers online to do the job. They pay $1 for every 6 minute audio file transcribed

I was hesitant at first but I did some research about the site and the company. The requirements were simple too. They only require you to have fast typing skills, good comprehension of english language, your own computer with internet connection and a verified Paypal account, so I decided to give it a shot since it's free to apply.

I applied online and after a couple of hours I was e-mailed that I was rejected. Then I read through Scribie's FAQ page that they mostly reject applications because of unverified paypal account. I forgot that my paypal account was still undergoing the verification process at that time.

For a moment, I thought there wasn't any chance for me but then as I continued reading, Scribie states they allow applicants to re-apply. So I waited until my Paypal account was completely verified. After a week I deleted my previous application and tried to apply again for the second time. After a couple of hours right after I submitted my application, Scribie e-mailed me saying that they accepted my application and  sent me a list of test audio files from which I need to pick one to transcribe. Most of the files had background noise so it was a bit challenging but I managed to transcribe the file that I selected by following the guidelines and the sample transcription available in the site. Using Express Scribe helped a lot too. It's a transcription tool that you can download in Scribie's site as well.

Before I submitted my test transcription, I reviewed it several times making sure I did not violate anything in the guideline. After I had submitted my work, I thought it would take days or weeks before I was going to receive a response from them but to my surprise a couple of hours later, Scribie e-mailed me confirming  that I passed the test! I was paid $1 for the test audio file that I just  transcribed. I was so happy I tried for the second time!
